The Golden State Warriors will head back home after a five game road trip. The best team in the West finished their trip at 3-2, including the last two in a row being wins. Will the loss of Kevin Durant, a win streak is exactly what this team needs to gain some confidence heading into the last quarter of the season.
I have always been a believer in the fact that Steph, Klay, and Draymond did not need another superstar to bring home a championship, and this is their chance to prove just that. There are so many people around the league who have given up on the Warriors championship chances. I think that games like tonight give those big three a chance to step up and get back to some 40-point performances that carried the team. It was a slow start to the road trip as Steph Curry went 45 for 114 from the field and just 15 for 59 from deep. Golden State would love to pick up their third win in a row, but it will take a much better shooting performance by not only Steph, but Klay as well.
The Warriors would love to come home to a much easier opponent, but they might be getting the worst of the second best team in the East. The Celtics are still three games behind the Cavs, even after dropping their last two on the road. It was not only the losses but the quality of the losses that concerns star point guard Isaiah Thomas. He expressed his concern with the way Coach Brad Stevens used his substitutes in the second half of their last game in Los Angeles. Blowing a late lead and falling into a 10-point deficit, all while Thomas was on the bench.
The Celtics have put it behind them and are ready to steal a huge game in the Bay Area, especially with Washington and Toronto breathing down their neck in the East. A huge road win against the league’s best team would be a huge momentum swing and a jumpstart towards the Cavs up top. It will not be easy, but if there was any team in the league who will not crumble under the huge crowd in Oracle Arena, it would be Boston.
I will take my perfect 2-0 record into tonight’s prediction and say that the Warriors make it three in a row. The Celtics will fall tonight by close to the same margin as last time (104-88) in Boston. Even though it was the Celtics who broke the Warriors 54-game home winning streak on their last trip to Oracle. I believe Draymond Green will drop a triple-double tonight, with Steph leading the dubs in scoring with 33 points. The Celtics should not be ashamed of this loss, as I think this team is dangerous when they get Al Horford back, and Avery Bradley is playing full minutes.
